Inverted Repeats in Viral Genomes

We investigate 738 complete genomes of viruses to detect the presence of short inverted repeats. The number of inverted repeats found is compared with the prediction obtained for a Bernoullian and for a Markovian control model. We find as a statistical regularity that the number of observed inverted repeats is often greater than the one expected in terms of a Bernoullian or Markovian model in several of the viruses and in almost all those with a genome longer than 30,000 bp.

International audience; Using daily rain-gauge records for Madagascar and nearby islands, this paper investigates rainfall intraseasonal variability at local and regional scales during the austral summer season (November–February), as well as the respective influences of recurrent convective regimes over the South-West Indian Ocean (SWIO) and the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO). Our results show a general consistency between local-scale rainfall variability in Madagascar and regional-scale features of climate variability. Abstract A GIS-based hybrid approach for gully erosion susceptibility mapping (GESM) in the Biarjamand watershed in Iran is presented. A database comprised of 15 geo-environmental factors (GEFs) was compiled and used to predict the spatial distribution of 358 gully locations; 70% (251) of which were extracted for training and 30% (107) for validation.
